Furry intruder at door

Alanna Kelly

A deer was captured on video surveillance, feasting on a homeowner's doorstep.

Meldon Lutzer said he woke up Saturday to find pieces of his tree on his front door, and was confused about how they got there.

“I just laughed … I can't believe how desperate they must be ... to come eating right at our door,” he said.

Once he viewed the security footage, he saw a deer munching on the tree for about 20 minutes at 3 a.m.

Deer are familiar neighbours in Kelowna's Upper Mission, and the homeowner says residents have tried to keep the deer away, but they keep coming back.

“They’ve gotten so bad the last couple of years, they’ve wrecked so many shrubs and trees in our area, and in the summer our vegetables and flowers,” he said.

This deer seemed to be picky, though.

“Right beside it on the other side, we have juniper, and they don’t seem to eat the juniper as much,” said Lutzer.

In the past, the deer have made the family angry at times, but this time they gave them a chuckle.
