Brand not dad of the year

Russell Brand's wife would never leave him to look after their two daughters on his own for 24 hours.

The British funnyman was questioned about his parenting skills during an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine and he admitted he had only ever looked after daughters Mabel, two, and Peggy, six months, on his own for a night, when they are mostly asleep.

When asked if he has ever been in sole charge of his children for 24 hours, he confessed that his wife Laura Gallacher wouldn't go away for that amount of time.

"She respects and cares for their safety too much," he said. "Yes, I'm very, very focused on the mystical connotations of Mabel's beauty and grace. Not so good on the nappies and making sure that they eat food.

"When I looked after Mabel on her own, she dropped two social classes in an hour. In no time at all we're in a coffee shop, she's just got a nappy on, she's covered in stuff because I'm not willing to fight any of the battles.... So it looks a bit (like TV series) Shameless within a couple of hours. Laura's able to sustain and maintain domesticity in a way that's astonishing."

When asked why he doesn't take a more hands-on approach, the 43-year-old explained that Laura, whom he married in 2017, was more capable than him at parenting.

"Me, I am dedicated to it, devoted to it, but I am still surprised when it's like, 'Oh my God, this is f**king really hard and it's so exhausting,'" he admitted.

In the interview, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, who was a notorious womanizer who claimed to have bedded hundreds of women, was asked if the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and assault made him reassess his past behaviour.

"No. I just feel that (#MeToo) is a really positive change, it's a sign of real awakening," he said, adding that there is nothing he looks back on with regret.
