Heartwarming reunion

Alanna Kelly

An emotional reunion between a dog and its owner took place Sunday night after the pet was rescued from the side of the Coquihalla Highway.

Carlie Holman was plowing Highway 5 near the Zopkios brake check when her colleagues spotted the black dog on the snowbank beside the highway

“I couldn't believe that he was there, I was so sad for him and I was sad… I just wanted to save him,” Holman said.

She brought the dog home to Chilliwack and took to social media Friday night to find its owner.

Archer, the 10-month-old mastiff lab cross had been shivering and alone since Tuesday.

“He was scared, he was cold, his tail was between his legs, and he was apprehensive,” she said.

On Saturday night, she received a message from a truck driver named Tony, saying she had found his dog.

“He’s a long haul truck driver from Calgary,” she said. “We had a video chat, and he was talking to Archer through my phone ... we were both crying.”

Holman and her family met Tony Sunday night on the highway, and Archer dashed right to him.

“It was really emotional. We pulled up to the truck and Tony got out and I got out with the dog, and my kids were there. Archer saw Tony and ran and jumped up on him and was giving him kisses,” said Holman.

While she is sad to see the dog go, she is happy it's back home with its owner.
