Two injured in serious crash

Alcohol and speed are believed to factors in a serious accident in Richmond.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 21, Richmond RCMP responded to the area of No. 6 Road and Blundell Road after reports of a single-vehicle collision into a hydro pole.

“Significant efforts by emergency personnel were required to extricate two occupants from an overturned Honda sedan located in a ditch off road near the intersection. Power outages were reported throughout the area as power lines were visibly detached,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“The driver, a 21-year old female from Surrey and the passenger, a 22-year old female, also from Surrey, were rushed to hospital. The driver sustained critical injuries. The passenger sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.”

The Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) is investigating along with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
