Dog dies in house fire

UPDATE: 1:15 p.m.

The Peachland home that was heavily damaged in a fire Friday night was for sale.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home on Robinson Place had been listed for $899,000 before a fire, which started in the garage, destroyed much of the home.

The full extent of the damage to the home can be seen in the daylight Saturday. The garage is completely burned down, while much of the adjacent side of the home is charred black, it's windows shattered.

While the two occupants of the home made it out safely, a dog is believed to have succumbed to the fire.

ORIGINAL: 8:30 a.m.

It appears that a family's dog didn't make it out in time, when a fire swept through a Peachland home Friday night.

The home on Robinson Place was damaged extensively Friday night, when the garage went up in flames at about 8 p.m. The fire quickly spread to the house itself.

Peachland fire chief Dennis Craig said two people were home at the time of the fire. They both got out of the home safely, but their dog doesn't appear to have made it from the home.

“The fire got up in the attic space of the house,” Craig said. “There was extensive damage to the house and the cause is currently under investigation.”

Firefighters from Peachland Fire Rescue Service remained at the scene until 2 a.m.
