Ski club hit by thieves

The Mckinney Nordic Ski Club outside Oliver has been plagued by “cowardly thieves” over the past three weeks.

The South Okanagan nonprofit announced on its website Wednesday its donation box has been broken into the last three weekends.

Most recently, the crooks hit the group's snowcat — nicknamed “Grumpy" — making off with 15 gallons of gas, its battery and a box containing oil, antifreeze and brake fluid.

“All this has been reported to RCMP file number 2019-256. I have built a better lock system on donation box. Will be trying to buy a locking gas cap and guess I will have to take battery out of snowcat when it is parked,” Groomer Al said.

Anyone that notices suspicious activity is asked to note vehicle descriptions and licence plate numbers.

“Frustration with thefts and costly as well,” said the club.
