Critics' Choice big winners

A Star Is Born, Roma, and Vice were the toast of the 2019 Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday.

Roma topped the winners at the Santa Monica, California ceremony with four honors for Best Picture and Best Foreign Language Film, while moviemaker Alfonso Cuaron landed the Best Director and Best Cinematography awards.

Christian Bale picked up both the Best Actor and Best Actor in a Comedy prizes for Vice, while there was also double delight for A Star Is Born, which earned Lady Gaga the Best Song title for Shallow, and the Best Actress honor, which she shared with Glenn Close for The Wife.

The singer-turned-actress broke down as she stepped up to the stage to collect her accolade, and expressed her joy at tying with the movie veteran.

"My mother and Glenn are good friends so I'm so very happy that you won this evening," she smiled as she fought back tears.

It was also a big night for Golden Globe winners Mahershala Ali and Regina King, who took home the Best Supporting Actor and Actress honors, respectively, for Green Book and If Beale Street Could Talk.

The Favourite led the way heading into the show with 14 nominations, but ended the night with just two prizes - Best Actress in a Comedy for Olivia Colman, and Best Acting Ensemble, although none of the main castmembers were able to attend the ceremony.

Meanwhile, in the TV categories, The Americans, which wrapped with its sixth and final season last year (18), was crowned Best Drama Series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was named Best Comedy Series, and Best Limited Series went to The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

There was also another tie for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television between Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) and Patricia Arquette (Escape at Dannemora).
