Plot to murder child killer

A Merritt man who killed his three children was the target of a murder plot by fellow patients at a Metro Vancouver forensic psychiatric hospital.

During a B.C. Review Board hearing Thursday, CTV News reports Allan Schoenborn's psychiatrist told the board two patients had conspired to harm or potentially kill Schoenborn, before staff discovered the plot.

Schoenborn killed his three children in his Merritt mobile home in 2008, but he was found not criminally responsible in 2010. He has remained under supervision at a psychiatric hospital since then.

His B.C. Review Board hearing was held at Coquitlam's Colony Farm forensic psychiatric hospital, where he is currently held.

Mike Clarke, the uncle of the three children, attended Schoenborn's review hearing Thursday.

"I don’t wish him any harm, personally. I wish he’d realize what he’s done and how he’s changed my family, our family," Clarke told CTV News.

While Schoenborn is currently allowed to be escorted out of the hospital at the discretion of the hospital's director, that has yet to happen. The Crown plans to ask for that privilege to be revoked.

While Dr. Marcel Hediger, Schoenborn's psychiatrist, said Schoenborn is taking his medications and his delusions are under control, he is still quick to anger and can become paranoid.

“If Mr. Schoenborn is in the community, with staff, and he is recognized, and there is negative reaction, I don’t have confidence that Mr. Schoenborn would manage that appropriately," Dr. Hediger said.
