V-Day event empowers

Vagina is not a four-letter word.

Vernon Women's Transition House Society is hosting a V-Day reading of the famous play The Vagina Monologues Feb. 28 at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre.

The fundraising event comes 20 years after Eve Ensler's groundbreaking play shattered taboos.

Directed by Tanya Laing Gahr (Calendar Girls), the production promises to be a funny, touching, challenging and ultimately empowering show, featuring a diverse cast of local women – some actors and some activists.

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation, and sex slavery, says organizer Paxton Bruce.

The Vernon event takes place Feb. 28, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are available at www.ticketseller.ca.

Vernon Women's Transition House Society provides shelter and services to women seeking safety from abuse in their relationship and survivors of sexual assault.
