Police hunting suspect

UPDATED: 3:26 p.m.

Multiple vehicles were damaged, including four RCMP cruisers, when a suspect attempted to flee from police in the North Okanagan on Monday morning.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are currently still engaged in the incident that occurred after an alleged armed robbery took place in Salmon Arm.

The investigation into the robbery led Enderby officers to engage with a suspect vehicle that was seen heading south from Salmon Arm.

Shortly after the alleged robbery officers located the suspect vehicle, a white Ford pick-up truck, travelling southbound on Highway 97A when it attempted to flee from police after a vehicle stop was initiated.

In its attempt to flee from police the vehicle rammed into what is believed to be four police vehicles and three civilian vehicles, causing significant damage.

A multi-unit police response was initiated including the assistance from the RCMP Police Service Dog and the RCMP Air Services Unit.

Officers were able to track the vehicle to the end of Jack Pine Road, where it came to a stop and both suspects fled on foot.

One man was taken into custody.

"At the time of writing, one suspect remains outstanding and officers are still heavily engaged in this investigation," said Const. Kelly Brett. "Further information will be distributed once available."

No one was injured in the incident.
