Vipers in the basement

The Vernon Vipers are sitting in the basement of the Interior Division after a loss Sunday to the hands of Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

Despite outshooting Salmon Arm 51 to 27, the Vipers fell 3-2 to their division rivals.

Salmon Arm opened the scoring in the first. The game stayed 1-0 until Vernon's Ben Helgeson scored his fourth of the season at the 8:08 mark of the second period.

Salmon Arms retook the lead on Justin Wilson's second goal of the game, however, the 2-1 lead was short-lived. Vernon's Teddy Wooding tied the game up less than two minutes later off an assist from Ben Helgeson.

Trevor Adams gave Salmon Arm the lead, scoring the eventual game-winner at 13:30 of the third.

Justin Wilson, and Ethan Langenegger of Salmon Arm were named the game's first and second stars, while Teddy Wooding of Vernon was named the game's third star.

The Vipers have three games left before the Christmas break, all on the road. Up next, Vernon travels to Penticton for a Wednesday showdown with the Vees.
