Rockets end trip with win

The Kelowna Rockets finished the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule on a positive note Saturday.

Leif Matson scored twice and Roman Basran turned away 31 shots leading the Rockets past the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Rockets finished their four-game Central Division road trip 2-2.

They're off now until Dec. 28, when they kick-off the second half of the season in Kamloops.

Mattson was given credit for the first goal of the game just shy of the midway mark of the opening period.

Tigers goaltender Jordan Hollett went to the bench with a delayed penalty against Rocket Nolan Foote. During the play, a pass by Tigers' forward Bryan Lockner missed everybody and went into the empty net.

Mattson was the last Rocket to touch the puck.

He picked up his second of the night and 16th of the year midway through the second, knocking home Kyle Topping's centering pass on a Kelowna power play.

James Hamblin ruined Basran's shutout bid with less than six minutes to play in regulation time.

Basran shut the door the rest of the way.

The Rockets enter the Christmas break 16-17-2-0, second in the BC Division.
