Michael Buble's wife Luisana Lopilato was sure he was gay when they were first introduced.

Crooner Michael and the Argentine actress married in 2011 and are now proud parents to children Noah, five, Elias, two, and Vida, four months.

While the Canadian star had a string of high profile romances before Luisana, including a long-term relationship with Emily Blunt, his future wife wasn't quite sure of Michael's preference when it came to dating.

"Luisana was with a beautiful (male) friend, a movie star and when they came together I thought they were together and I didn't want to be rude and hit on her so I spoke to him," Michael recalled in an interview on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero. "And I was very nice and tried to find out if they were a couple, but I got very drunk, so finally I said to him 'you know? your girlfriend is very beautiful' and he replied, 'no, she is not my girlfriend, she is into you.'

"And I thought, OK, I have a chance. But as I spoke with him all night she was on her phone talking to her mom and saying 'I met Michael Buble tonight, but he is so gay.'"

Michael also revealed that some heavy drinking was involved in the making of his new album, Love, his first release since son Noah was given the all clear from cancer.

News broke of Noah's diagnosis in late 2016, with Michael stepping out of the spotlight while the tot battled the illness. He released Love, his 10th studio album, last month and it topped the charts in the U.K. and his native Canada as well as hitting the top five around the globe.

"I was drunk, with loads of pizza and friends," he grinned. "It's something natural. It's just me with my friends drinking beer, whiskey, and playing football."
