Sister saved her life

Police are crediting a teenager with saving her younger sister's life in a pedestrian hit and run, Monday, in Saanich.

The 15 year old and her six-year-old sister were in a crosswalk on their way to school when the younger girl was struck. The collision threw her almost eight metres, CTV News reports.

The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to be released from hospital later Monday. But, police say it could have been a lot worse.

“She reached out and grabbed her younger sister by the back of the shirt, pulled her out of the way just in time to avoid getting completely struck by the vehicle,” Const. Stephen Reichert told CTV. “She was still struck by the vehicle but it’s my belief that thanks to the 15-year-old sister’s quick actions she actually saved her sister from very serious injury.”

The driver fled, but the vehicle is described as a white, late 1980s or early '90s four-door sedan.
