SkyTrain to Langley planned

TransLink has released plans for a SkyTrain extension linking Surrey and Langley.

That follows plans for a $1.65-billion light rail link that were thrown out by Surrey’s new city council.

The SkyTrain extension would follow the Fraser Highway, CTV News reports.

The Lower Mainland transit authority estimates $56 million had already been spent on designs and planning for the LRT project.

"If we shift to Fraser Highway and need more funds to get all the way to Langley city, we’ll have to go back to the province and say how are we going to manage that? And if there’s an additional gap, which there likely will be, we’ll have to have conversations with the government of Canada. At this point, it’s all very speculative," TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond said last month.

The 16-kilometre Fraser Highway extension would see the track elevated, and would include eight stations.
