The Mission Girl Guides pose with Santa and their haul of donated gifts from Saturday's event.

More than 400 people chowed down on pancakes in the Mission Saturday morning, all for a good cause.

The fifth annual Toonie and Toy Pancakes with Santa event was held in Mission from 9 to 11 a.m., hosted by the Okanagan Mission Community Hall, the Mission Lions Club and the Mission Girl Guides.

For $2 and a donated toy, attendees were treated to a pancake breakfast and a visit with Santa himself.

The hundreds of toys collected were donated to Kelowna Santas, a local volunteer group that works to give less fortunate children a better Christmas.

“It's a lot of toys, it filled the stage here at the Mission Hall,” said Beverly Dawe, manager of the Okanagan Mission Community Hall. “(Kelowna Santas) distribute them to lots of other organizations within the city.”

In addition to the pancakes, the girl guides decorated cookies and sold crafts, perfect for Christmas gifts.

Dawe thanked all of the Mission residents who came out to support the event and donate a toy.

“Each year, we're getting an increase in the amount of people that come,” she said. “It's always been really well attended and it's a really good community event.”
