A Kelowna residents is left wondering why someone would want to steal his 10-year-old Christmas lights.

Surveillance video on the Ortt Road home captured a thief walk down the driveway, unplug lights set up on bushes, roll them up and run away.

“There is nothing special about them … they are just old Christmas lights,” said Peter Theissen.

Theissen normally wakes up at 2 a.m. and before heading out for work unplugs the lights, but on Sunday they had disappeared.

He says the mystery was solved when he checked the surveillance video and saw the stranger on his property.

“My neighbour across the street has lights everywhere, around every tree, and candy canes … his house wasn’t touched,” he said.

A neighbour heard about what happened, and out of kindness replaced the lights.

Last year, similar incidents took place in West Kelowna and Vernon.
