'Cream of the crop' up top

Vernon's very own Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre will host the 2018 Haywood NorAm/US Super Tour this coming Saturday and Sunday.

The club is very excited to host this high-level competition.

"A lot of places around the country don't have snow," said Troy Hudson, general manager of SLNC. "Since we have such good snow early on in the year there was a migration of Americans that started coming up a couple years.

"We've got Canadian and American World Cup athletes here."

SLNC will be the second stop on the US SuperTour Points Series in 2018, with hundreds of athletes competing this weekend.

"It's a great opportunity to really see how the sport [cross-country skiing] really works at the top end," Hudson said. "We've got the majority of the national team here right now."

Training will kickoff on Friday and fast pace sprint racing will take place on Saturday, while individual starts, classic racing will take place on Sunday.

This is a huge opportunity for the hill to showcase the mountain and welcome citizens from across the U.S. for a great weekend of racing, says Hudson.

A barbecue lunch will be available with all proceeds going towards the youth development program at Sovereign Lake.

Hudson suggests people carpool to the hill so there's more parking available for everyone.
