The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced the completion of more safety improvements on Westside Road.

The roadway along the west side of Okanagan Lake will be safer this winter thanks to widening and barrier installation on a section of Westside Road which are now complete.

The roadwork was completed between La Casa Resort and Muir Road, which is about 30 kilometres north of the Highway 97 intersection. This part of Westside Road features steep embankments down to Okanagan Lake.

The new improvements delivered 1.3 kilometres of lane widening and straightening to improve sightlines and visibility, the installation of guardrails to help keep vehicles on the road.

They have also added a paved shoulder to create more room for cyclists and pedestrians.

The $7-million project also included crossing improvements to increase safety for pedestrians at the intersection of Westside Road and Barcelona Drive, which were completed in May.
