Nearly 25% of ballots in

About a quarter of eligible voters in the province have made their feelings known on electoral reform.

According to Elections BC, 24 per cent (779,200) of ballots have been received, however less that half, 11.4 per cent (377,092) have been processed.

The numbers, compiled as of Tuesday morning, do not include those that have been mailed, but still remain in the Canada Post system.

Voters in the province are being asked if they want to change the electoral system from the current first-past-the-post to one of three forms of proportional representation.

Unlike the previous two referendums, which required a 60 per cent threshold to change the system, this referendum needs only a simple majority.

Throughout the five Okanagan ridings, nearly 37,000 ballots have been processed.

Completed referendum packages must be received by Elections BC by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

For those who have not received a ballot, you have until Nov. 23 to request one at either elections.bc.ca/ovr, or by calling 1-800-661-8683.
