Beloved therapy dog passes

A therapy dog that comforted hundreds of sick kids at Vancouver's Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is being mourned by those whose lives she touched.

Poppy the golden retriever worked at Canuck Place for more than eight years.

Dozens of people have shared how Poppy touched their lives since the hospice shared news of her death this week.

“She would be with a child at their end of life; she would see a sibling who was sad because their little brother or little sister was sick; she’d hang out with staff who had gone through significant loss,” said spokesperson Debbie Butt. “It’s pretty remarkable to think about how much compassion, empathy, support and joy she gave to children and families who were in our care.”

"It is with great sadness that we share that our beloved service dog, Poppy, has passed away. Over the years, Poppy has filled Canuck Place with love and comfort, always ready to brighten someone’s day and provide support where needed," the hospice posted on Facebook.
