Rockets snap 4-game skid

Nolan Foote had a three-point night and Roman Basran came up big in the third period, leading the Kelowna Rockets to a 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday.

The win snapped the Rockets four-game losing skid, and brought an end to a long 10-day road trip that took them through Washington, Oregon, Central B.C. and Alberta.

They kicked off the trip with a win in Seattle before ending it the same way in Edmonton.

Saturday was a defensive struggle for much of the first 40 minutes, with neither team directing much rubber at the opposing net. Edmonton outshot the Rockets 15-9 through two period, but it was the Rockets, and Foote, who made the most of their chances.

Foote snapped a 1-1 tie with goals 32 seconds apart midway through the second that proved to be the difference.

Liam Kindree scored the other Kelowna goal on a first period power play that tied the game 1-1. Foote assisted on that goal as well while Leif Mattson picked up assists on all three goals.

Basran did the rest, stopping 12 more shots in the final period as the Oil Kings did everything but score.

Edmonton outshot the Rockets 27-13.

The Rockets, 9-13-1-0 on the season, return home to host the Regina Pats Wednesday and Victoria Friday.
