Christmas on the Sicamous

Chelsea Powrie

There are plenty of Christmas Markets happening this time of year around the okanagan, but there’s only one that takes place on a boat.

The annual SS Sicamous Christmas Market kicked off Saturday morning, with over a thousand people filing through throughout the day to visit the uniquely situated fair.

"We love coming to this venue, because it's spectacular, amazing, one-of-a-kind, unique, vintage, heritage, you name it, we got it all right here," said market organizer Laurel Burnham.

The market features 45 vendors on all three levels of the boat. There are also door prizes every hour, and a chance to enter to win an overall prize of a Christmas ham.

The vendors offer everything from wine, preserves and other foods, to homemade crochets, confection, crafts and other gifts.

2,500 people are expected to visit over the course of the two-day event, with 1,400 visiting on Saturday alone. Burnham said she loves seeing the reaction of visitors to this unique fair.

"There's nothing like this ship, and everybody has that same 'Wow!' kind of experience when they walk in the door," she said.

The market opens again Sunday morning, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an entry fee of $4.
