Vote for BC's official fossil

B.C. has an official flower, the Pacific Dogwood, and an official bird, the Stellar's jay – but it will soon also have an official fossil.

Seven candidates in the running, but Pat Trask of the Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Centre is firmly behind the Elasmosaur.

The 80-million-year-old marine reptile once swam in B.C. waters, and a fossil was discovered along the banks of the Puntledge River in 1988.

The discovery led to formation of the BC Paleontological Society.

Online voting closes Nov. 23.
