Neighbour is burning mad

A Lumby man woke up to ash covering his house, yard and vehicles Wednesday morning.

Ben Levi, Lumby resident, says slash piles were lit without warning less than 600 feet from his house.

"Nobody even warned us or anything," he said. "I just walked out the door and there was great big clouds of smoke and flames."

"There is literally chunks of ash, burnt chunks of bark that are about an inch and half big, laying all over our vehicles and the roof of the house and everywhere in the yard."

Levi lives just off Gibson Road and chances are the fires will burn out quickly but what frustrates Levi is he says he didn't receive any warning.

This comes at a time when an air quality advisory and open burning restrictions have been in effect for the nearby Lavington area.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, in collaboration with the Interior Health Authority, has issued an Air Quality Advisory for
Lavington due to high concentrations of fine particulates, which are expected to persist until there is a change in current weather conditions.

Open burning restrictions are now in effect for the area within 15 kilometres of the Lavington Fire Hall for a period of two days

No new fires may be initiated and no additional material may be added to existing fires.
