No PM at convention

B.C.'s federal Liberal MPs are coming to Kelowna, Friday – but it doesn't look like the prime minister will be making an appearance.

The province's 18 members of parliament will be making their way to the Okanagan for the 2018 Liberal Party of Canada in B.C. Convention, which runs through the weekend.

The federal Liberals have met in Kelowna twice in the past two years.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, meanwhile, will be in Singapore Thursday and Friday, before travelling to Papua New Guinea Friday night.

This weekend's convention comes less than a year before the October 2019 federal election. In 2015, Stephen Fuhr unseated longtime Conservative MP Ron Cannan from the Kelowna-Lake Country riding, the first time a Liberal has held the riding since the 1960s.

Fuhr will seek re-election in next year's election, while former Kelowna councillor Tracy Gray and local businesswoman Renee Wasylyk are seeking the nomination for the Conservative Party.
