Pat Quinn statue defaced

"Disrespectful and disappointing."

That's how officials with the Vancouver Canucks are describing damage caused to a statue honouring Pat Quinn by vandals.

"Pat is an icon with the Canucks and our city. It is disrespectful and disappointing to see his statue like this," Canucks Sports and Entertainment COO Jeff Stipec said in a statement to CTV Vancouver.

"We are in the process of restoring it to its original prominence."

Monday afternoon, the face and portions of the torso were found covered with an orange paint substance.

The statue of Quinn, a former player, coach and GM of the Canucks, was erected outside Rogers Arena in 2017.

Quinn died in 2014.

Police said they had not received reports of damage to the statue, but said those responsible could face charges of mischief.
