Winter weather has arrived

Winter-like conditions have arrived across the Okanagan.

With temperatures dipping well below 0 C overnight, Okanagan residents can expect periods of snow throughout the day Friday.

"The valley bottoms will stay more or less just cool enough," said Armel Castellan, warning preparedness meteorologist, Environment Canda. "It will be quite close to the threshold but the rain will probably not materialize unless you are in the South Thompson."

"For the Okanagan Valley, you should probably see snow most of the day, worst case will be a rain-snow mix."

Castellan predicts about 5 to 10 centimetres of snow will accumulate throughout the day in Vernon, Kelowna and even as far south as Penticton.

"Of course, the Connector will be higher amounts of snow."

Upwards of 15 cm of snow could accumulate on the Okanagan Connector through the course of the day.

Motorists should now have winter tires on their vehicles and should use caution when driving.
