Man brawls with cops

A 27-year-old man is facing numerous charges after allegedly assaulting three police officers during an altercation at the Canadian Wholesale Club in Vernon.

Const. Kelly Brett said on Nov. 6, RCMP responded to the store at 2501 34th Street when Kyle Larue refused to leave the store property despite being asked to do so several times.

Larue allegedly became violent with a police officer who responded to the call.

“A Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officer attempted to speak with the male, however, when doing so the male became violent with the officer and a struggle ensued,” said Brett. “During the altercation, the suspect male allegedly attempted to disarm the officer and produced a knife and bear spray. A multiple unit response was required and two officers were injured in the execution of the arrest.”

Brett said three officers were assaulted, with two being injured.

“Even after being injured, the responding officer was able to retain his weapon, keep himself, along with the public safe and take the male into custody,” said Brett.

Larue, of no fixed address, is facing charges of assault with a weapon, attempt to disarm a police officer, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer and possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public

Larue appeared before a judge on Nov. 7, and was released from custody on a recognizance with numerous conditions and a future court date.
