Gaming for sick kids

Gamers – of the board and video kind – came together over the weekend to raise money for BC Children's Hospital.

Sixty adults and 11 children got together to participate in the fourth annual 24-hour board gaming marathon, to raise funds through extra-life.org for the hospital.

Local businesses donated coffee, water and prizes for the event, which was held at Green Gables Daycare.

"Between all of us, we were able to raise over $5,000," said Rebekah Bueckert. "Eight players were able to play for the entire 24 hours, while others came and went."

OOMM Games announced it would match all donations up to $5,000, bringing the total to more than $10,000.

Meanwhile, a group of video gamers held their own fundraiser, bringing in another $1,000.

Participants included members of a small Kelowna-based film/video game news podcast called GeekVerse, who also shaved their heads to support the cause.
