Old truck has its voice back

The Village of Lumby is breathing new life into a piece of history.

Castanet recently brought you the story of an old, abandoned fire truck that was given a new lease on life thanks to a twist of fate.

Well, that fire truck now has its voice back and has been fired up again.

"The guys got the siren working. It's so loud," said Garry McLaughlin.

McLaughlin has been the driving force behind the fire truck restoration project.  He says the past few weeks the community support has been incredible.

"People literally coming off the streets with know-how, showing up. Just random guys rolling up our sleeves to get the vehicle started again."

The goal is to have the truck running by the Lumby Santa Claus parade in early December.

McLaughlin has been documenting the progress on his blog,  Lumby Fire Truck Restoration Project. He says, so far, they have raised roughly $1,200 for the project through a GoFundMe campaign

"It's such a cliché ... but the comment keeps coming up: its ready to go to work again. It's not ready to give up the ghost and it still has more stories to tell and we want to tell those stories."
