A prescribed burn along the Penticton Channel last spring.
A prescribed that was announced earlier this month will begin today in the Garnet Lake area between Summerland and Peachland.
The burn is a joint project between the Penticton Indian Band and Davies Wildfire Management, with support from BC Wildfire Service.
BC Wildfire posted on Twitter Tuesday morning that smoke from the 120-hectare burn might be visible from nearby communities.
The carefully controlled and monitored fire is part of an ongoing ecosystem revitalization project in the area, since low-intensity fires are a natural renewal process for the Garnet Valley area.
