More fog delays at YLW

UPDATE 11:25 a.m.

Early morning fog has been causing havoc with some flights in and out of Kelowna International Airport over the last couple of days.

YLW Airport Director, Sam Samaddar says they simply can't have flights depart or land under these reduced visibility conditions.

"This is typical for October weather, especially when you have cold air passing over the warmer water or moist land. Of course we have Duck Lake at one end which will generate some fog, there's no doubt about it. we are in a bit of a frost pocket as the geography at this end of town goes."

Sammaddar advises people who are travelling or who are picking travellers up to check the YLW website for the latest on departures and arrivals
and/or contact your airline, "it's really just day by day just watch what's happening with the weather."

ORIGINAL 8:11 a.m.

Cooler temperatures overnight are causing major fog buildups across the Okanagan Tuesday morning, again.

The fog has impacted flights out of YLW and is making visibility difficult and roads are slicker than usual.

So far four arriving WestJet flights have been delayed or canceled and six departing flights, both WestJet and Air Canada have been canceled or delayed.

You are advised to check with the airport before heading out.
