Pipe band to open for Rod

The Kelowna Pipe Band has been asked to open for rocker Rod Stewart when he performs in Kelowna.

Stewart is set to perform at Prospera Place on Nov. 1.

Pipe band member Steve Wraith, who plays snare drum, said the group received confirmation of the gig over the weekend.

He described the opportunity to play with the famed entertainer as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"We all couldn't believe it. Shocked, actually. Then excited once we read the email from the promoter," he said.

The band will play a set including Scotland the Brave before Stewart comes on stage.

The two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee's latest tour delivers chart-topping hits spanning his five-decade career, as well as songs off his new album, Blood Red Roses.

Stewart is one of the best-selling artists in history, with more than 200 million records sold worldwide.
