Strong turnout at polls

Kelowna voters converged on City Hall and other polling stations, Saturday, to cast their ballots in the municipal election.

As the afternoon ticked closer to the 8 p.m. poll closing, voters coming and going from City Hall said the process was smooth.

“It was quick and easy,” said one voter. “It was very easy.”

Another said he was voting for incumbent Colin Basran.

“I was concerned that his opponents were more concerned about spending money on very big projects, and that worried me,” he said.

One woman said she's concerned with homelessness and are not thrilled with what she's seen happen to Kelowna.

Many said they think the race between Basran and Tom Dyas will be close.

A first-time voter said he cast his vote for challenger Bobby Kennedy.

Another declined to say who he'd voted for, but was hoping Basran does not get re-elected.

“I don’t think he is good for the city ... I’d like the homeless population to move out of the downtown.”

Polls close at 8 p.m., and a list of locations can be found here.

Castanet will be providing live coverage from 8 p.m. on.
