Cat stuck in tree for days

A Summerland resident has been trying for two days to get help with bringing her cat down from a high perch in a pine tree across the street from her house.

Marcia Kozak lives on Cartwright Avenue, and her cat, Baby Doll, ran up a tree two days ago. She thinks Baby Doll may have been spooked by a bear or coyote.

She called the Summerland Fire Department and Fortis BC, and was turned down.

"Basically, you have to try to arrange yourself," Kozak said. "They all say to wait for her to come down in a couple of days for food. But how can she when there are no branches left on the middle of the tree?"

Kozak also tried Acacia Tree Services, but unfortunately, they did not have equipment that could reach high enough to get Baby Doll down.

She is concerned Baby Doll won't survive a third day without food or water.

Luckily, she also received a call from Bartlett Tree Experts this morning, who indicated they would come out to the area sometime today to try and retrieve the cat.

"Now just the waiting," Kozak said. "Hope this all works. At least it will heighten awareness."

She also asks anyone who might have machinery with a solution to help retrieve the cat to contact her at 250 494 8162.

Castanet will provide an update.
