Prolific offender crackdown

Williams Lake RCMP are cracking down on prolific offenders. 

The city has seen a spike in break & enters and theft from vehicles of late. 

"Keeping up a proactive policing approach, police have identified prolific and known property offenders in the city," stated Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. "Street checks were conducted and where applicable, curfew checks where completed nightly."

Over a three-week period, roughly 60 checks were made and 29 known offenders were arrested. 

"The RCMP submitted numerous reports to the BC Prosecution Service for review. As a result, there are two individuals on strict curfew conditions and three of the arrested individuals remain in custody," stated Saunderson.

Potential charges from the weeks-long project include:

  • 6 charges of Possession of Stolen Property
  • 3 charges of Break & Enter
  • 8 charges of Theft from Vehicle
  • 2 charges of Possession of a Weapon
  • 1 charge of Aggravated Assault
  • 1 charge of Possession of Break & Enter Tools
  • 6 charges of Breach of Conditions

The Williams Lake RCMP stated it will continue to target the identified individuals in a continuing effort to reduce the number of thefts.
