Up to 20 cm of snow

Alanna Kelly

A large dumping of snow is expected to fall on the Okanagan Connector soon.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the Okanagan Connector, from Merritt to Kelowna on Sunday.

Up to 20 centimetres of snow is possible over the Pennask Summit of the Okanagan Connector on Monday through to Tuesday morning.

“A low-pressure system will move across the BC southwest interior on Monday,” says the statement. “With a snow level forecast near 1400 metres, snow will begin to accumulate at Pennask Summit Monday morning.”

Snowfall is expected to start off lightly with just five cm in the daylight hours. But as the cold front moves in on Monday night, snow rates will “intensify” to 10 to 15 cm near the Summit.

Snow is expected to taper off on Tuesday morning.

Vehicles are required to be equipped with appropriate winter tires on specific highways across the North, Interior, South Coast, and Vancouver Island as of Oct. 1.

Drivers whose vehicles don't have tires with either the M+S or mountain/snowflake symbol could face a fine of $109.

Drivers should regularly check road conditions at DriveBC.
