Longstanding plans to improve the Kettle Valley Rail trail through Pioneer Park in Kaleden are finally set to go ahead.
On Thursday, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen approved spending more than $38,000 to complete a section of the KVR trail through the community, which for years has been tough for cyclists to navigate.
Area D director Tom Siddon said a walkway will be built where cyclists will have to walk their bikes over the section of the trail. The funding being used is gas tax funds left over from a project to improve the Pioneer Park parking lot in 2016.
The RDOS first applied to the province for a tenure over Crown land to do the work more than six years ago.
The trail completion is part of a series of long-term upgrades the regional district is planning at the Skaha Lake waterfront in Kaleden.
