Spill response drill

Trans Mountain ran an emergency test on Wednesday to see how quickly and efficiently they can respond to a spill in the Burrard Inlet.

The company released 160,000 litres of a benign test substance to see how quickly the spill could be contained and cleaned up.

"I think there's been a lot of interest in our operations growing over the past few years, with our expansion project, so this is an opportunity for people to come and see how we operate," Trans Mountain's Michael Davies said.

The company used skimmers, and high-tech equipment and ships as part of the clean-up.

Trans Mountain is at the centre of a political and emotional debate over expanding an existing pipeline and must prove they are capable of handling any spills created by a rupture.
