RDOS trims emergency staff

Turnover is continuing this year at the regional district's emergency operations department.

Brandy Maslowski was let go earlier this month by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Maslowski was the regional district's fire services supervisor until that full time position was cut in April, after board members decided to decentralize fire services and give more control to volunteer fire chiefs.

After that, Maslowski had worked with the Emergency Operations Centre until work wound down this month.

"As far as I know, she’s already commenced work with an emergency response contractor," RDOS chief administrative officer Bill Newell said on Friday.

Maslowski had been hired by the RDOS in July of 2017 to be the new emergency services manager. She was moved to the fire services supervisor role several months later after the RDOS hired Paul Edmonds, who left in August to do independent contract work.

Newell said the regional district is still working on hiring a new person for Edmonds' position.
