City buys creekside home

The City of Penticton has pulled the trigger on the purchase of a home along Penticton Creek to make way for creek widening and restoration work.

It was disclosed during Tuesday's council meeting that the city has finalized the purchase of 395 Norton Street for $345,000.

General manager of infrastructure Mitch Moroziuk explained the property was identified some time ago as one of various properties the city will need to obtain to complete creek widening work.

The property was going up for sale on the open market, he said, so the city approached the owners with an offer.

The home will need to be demolished to make way for the creek work. Moroziuk could not say how many other properties the city will need to purchase to complete the work.
