When reading the history of Auschwitz, there was a time that, because of the horror, people wanted it gone.
There were plans to tear down and remove all reminders.
Folks came to realize it would not work. It remains because history will always be history.
They removed statues in the United States, and for some reason since they are gone, people thought so would be the history. To them, the statues were just reminders.
What next? Will they remove that part from history books and just skip it in class?
We will always need that which was erected because it happened. We need to own it as people.
