Puppies are heading home

The five puppies pictured with a BC Wildfire crew over the weekend are back home after what is considered miscommunication.

On the weekend, a group of firefighters came across five puppies on the side of the road. Concerned for the safety of the dogs, and acting on the advice of RCMP, the firefighters picked the dogs up and removed them from the area.

The dogs were taken to the SPCA, and at the time of this article were in the process of being taken back to their farm on Mabel Lake Road.

"We wanted to let the public know that there was never a malicious intent in taking the dogs, which was being passed around," said fire information officer Kyla Fraser. "The crew was just genuinely concerned for the well being of the puppies and wanted to make sure they were okay and doing what they were advised to do by RCMP."

On Monday, after reading the initial story the owner had contacted Castanet to say that she wanted the dogs back but was unable to track them down.

Heidi Lang told Castanet that the dogs were bred to be guardian dogs and it is their nature is to protect the farm and livestock.

Lang understands now that confusion fueled the decision to take the dogs and wants to leave the incident in the past.
