Prolific offender denied bail

A prolific Kelowna car thief will remain behind bars while he faces 11 new charges.

Stanley Nickason appeared in court by video Tuesday for a bail hearing, after he was arrested in early June.

The 36-year-old's recent charges include possession of stolen property, flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle and several firearms charges.

The circumstances of the charges are protected under a publication ban, which aims to protect the accused's right to a fair trial.

Justice Ellen Burdett denied Nickason bail. The reasons for Burdett's decision are also under a publication ban.

Nickason has an extensive criminal history dating back to the mid-1990s.

During his most recent sentencing hearing, Nickason's mother told court her son is “the nicest kid” when he's not using drugs, and she had hoped he could turn his life around. She was in court again on Tuesday in support of her son.

Nickason will next appear in court on Aug. 30 for an arraignment hearing.
