RCMP cleaning the streets

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have hinted at an upcoming challenge aimed at cleaning up the downtown core.

Const. Kelly Brett and new detachment Supt. Shawna Bahar posted a video to social media hinting at the challenge while participating with a community used needle pick up through the Upper Room Mission.

The issue of safety in Vernon's downtown has sparked several conversations on topic ranging from increased petty crime to an increase in improperly disposed of needles.

On the issue of improperly disposed of needles, Vernon councillor Dalvir Nahal has said she hopes to use donated funds to expand the used needle program in town while continuing talks with social service agencies about the idea of a needle buy-back program.
