Drag queen attacked

A drag queen was jumped and attacked in a show of intolerance that coincided with Pride Week in Kelowna.

After Friday night's Drag Superstar event at the Laurel Packinghouse, the victim was assaulted while walking home.

The victim was too shaken to talk and didn't want to be named, but was said to be "pretty sore" after the attack.

By all accounts, the sold-out drag event was a hit, and the celebration continued on at an after-party at Sapphire nightclub.

It was after that the victim was beaten on the walk home, along Water Street.

The drag queen was able to fight back and get away to safety, friends say.

"We need to do better to protect one another and stand up against those who would treat anyone this way," one supporter said on social media.
