So you wanna be on council

Interested in running for city council this fall?

Prospective candidates for mayor or councillor in this October's municipal election are invited to an information session in council chambers at Kelowna City Hall.

The session takes place Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

City staff will present an overview of what sitting on council is like. Topics will range from how to complete nomination papers, key deadlines, to expectations and commitments needed to serve on council. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Anyone who plans to run for mayor or councillor is encouraged to attend, as well as those curious to learn more about how council works.

Nomination packages are available for pick up at City Hall. Candidates must be nominated in writing by 10 eligible voters. Completed papers must be filed between Sept. 4 and 14.

School District 23 is hosting a separate information session for prospective trustee candidates on Sept. 6.

Voters go to the polls on Oct. 20.
