Critters need help in smoke

Smoky conditions from nearby fires have caused health concerns for the residents and volunteers at Critteraid animal sanctuary in Summerland.

They are desperately seeking some extra helping hands for the next week while the smoke dissipates.

"It's a scary time right now and a huge health risk to all," they wrote in a Facebook post. "No big commitment pressure, we just need you right now and any amount of time will do. We want all hands on deck to ensure the safety and well-being of our animals."

The pigs, alpacas, cows, geese and horses that call Critteraid home live outside and are breathing in smoke 24/7. The hope is that with more volunteers around, potential health problems can be spotted early and dealt with quickly.

And if farm animals aren't your thing, they are also looking for extra help with their cats, everything from cleaning to cuddling.

To sign up to volunteer, call or text Andrea at 250-486-2444 as soon as possible.
