Park upgrades moving along

Work is set to get underway to upgrade tennis courts and build two new pickleball courts at Spirit Park in Naramata.

On Thursday, Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen board members awarded the $172,000 project to Chute Creek Construction.

The work is part of several major upgrades being done at the park, located next to Naramata Elementary, which included installing a new children's playground — a project that was completed in July.

The upgrades at Spirit Park will cost about $203,000 altogether, funded by $110,000 worth of federal gas tax funds, $20,000 in community donations and other grants totalling $16,000, while the regional district will cover the rest of the costs with reserve funds.

The land for the park, at Bartlett Road and Robinson Avenue, was first purchased by the regional district in 2016.

It's expected the upgrades will be completed sometime in the fall.
